Owen has been asking to go on an airplane ride for several months now. We've been contemplating taking a short trip somewhere so he'd get to go on a plane, but just hadn't come across the right thing yet. Then some friends of ours emailed to see if we'd be interested in renting their timeshare for a week in St. Petersburg, FL. Everything fell into place, so we decided to go for it!
Leading up to the trip, O kept reminding us that at the beach, we don't need to wear winter coats. I think that is what he was most excited about! Our flight out was at 6:30AM (OUCH!) so since it was our first time traveling with a kid, we decided to abide by the 2 hour airport rule. He was amazingly chipper when I woke him up and he got ready without complaining. That made life so much easier!
He was very patient going through security and was a big helper when it came to holding his own boarding pass.
After getting through security, we ate some breakfast and found a fun, indoor, play structure that bought us some time before heading to our gate.
Captain Owen says we are ready for take off!

A few little silly things to keep us busy on the plane!
Showing Mr. Bear the clouds
Heidi was so sweet, she gave him a special present to open on the plane and it kept him busy for HOURS! It was a sticker book that was an equivalent to paper dolls for boys. Each page had a "scene" with policemen, fire fighters, life guards, astronauts, etc. and then there were sticker outfits to dress them in. He loved it! What a thoughtful gift!
Overall, he did great on the plane! He was very well-behaved. On the descent, there were some turbulents and he heard some older kids ahead of him saying, "This is scary" and "Oh, that was fun!" He joined in with, "Whoa mom, that was fun!" but he said it in a voice that sounded a little bit worried! It was pretty cute, he made Mr. Bear sit inside his seat belt and he talked Mr. Bear out of being scared. It was a great first plane ride!
